With the purpose of alleviating the effects of the pandemic, giving a possibility of learning and entertainment, SERC Chile donated 520 copies of “With you … the Sun” to institutions that have children hospitalized, in complex medical care, or under guardianship of the State.

The Roberto del Río, Exequiel González Cortés and Sótero del Río hospitals; the Colegio Hospitalario Con Todo el Corazón, located in the Luis Calvo Mackenna Hospital; Sename and Teletón , received the books to distribute to boys and girls and also to leave them as reference material in their libraries.

Children who require special care study at the Con Todo el Corazón Hospital School and cannot attend school due to their health conditions. The school’s director, Constanza Labbé, received a consignment of books. “We are convinced that they will be of great help and support, both for the knowledge and taste for science, as well as for the motivation and learning of the children and young people of our School,” she says in the thank you letter sent to the director from SERC Chile, Claudia Rahmann.

At the Sótero del Río Hospital, the management awarded the books to the NiNEAS team (Children with Special Health Needs) and Pediatric Nephrology. Dr. Ana María Cabezas, from NiNEAS thanked them, as did Dr. Sonia Márquez, from Nephrology. At that hospital, copies were delivered to Infectology (Pediatric AIDS), the Hospitalized Unit and the CRAI, Children’s Hearing Rehabilitation Center.

At the Exequiel González Cortés Hospital, the donation was received by its director, Dr. Inés Araneda, who stressed that it will be helpful “for the entertainment and learning of our patients during their hospitalization.”

At the Roberto del Río Hospital, the books were assigned to Neurology, the Children’s Oncology Unit and the Pediatric AIDS Program. The head of the Infectious Diseases Unit, Dr. Mirta Acuña, received them and thanked them. The psychologist Marcela Mesina, who attends Pediatric AIDS, said that “With you … the Sun” has been highly valued by children, “because it is beautiful and very educational.”

The National Service for Minors, Sename, also distributed the books in its regional centers. Its deputy director, Claudia De La Hoz, highlighted the donation: “It is undoubtedly very valuable, because it allows us to bring science and knowledge of solar energy closer together in a fun and entertaining way, even more so in times of Covid-19 where it is it requires having more tools for learning. It will be a material that we will get the most out of ”.

Teletón distributed its copies in the libraries of the 13 centers it has in the country. Aldo Orrigoni, Director of the Teletón Volunteering, on which the libraries depend, said that for them “it is very important to put the centers at the service of education, culture and the family.”
