Several lectures about basic sciences and solar energy were presented by national and international guests for five days during the event.
The first Workshop of Research Strategies for Solar Energy and Basic Sciences was held with great attendance of academicians, related companies, students and key players related to energy in the country.
This is the first meeting held in the country where basic sciences such as optics, astronomy and chemistry, among others, as well as the foundations of physics, were analyzed in relation to solar energy development.
Other presentations, which showed the experience of other countries, were held. This allows knowing the different opportunities present in terms of scientific and technological development for the future.
In this way, the meeting allowed to create an interesting discussion about the strategies that can be applied to the national reality and to solar energy research.
Among the international guests that participated, we can name Radovan Kopecek, from ISC Konstanz in Germany, and the Chilean engineer Enrique Cabrera. In representation of the University of Marburg, Germany, we can name the physics professor Stephan Koch, and the lecturer from Universidad de Concepción, Paulraj Manidurai.
On the other hand, the national presenters were Ernest Michael, from the astronomical group of Universidad de Chile; Andrea Cortés, chemist from Universidad Técnico Federico Santa María; professor Patricio Haberlé, from the same institution; professor Jaime Llanos from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Norte; Marcelo Matus, SERC Chile; and Eduardo Soto, from Fundación Chile.
On behalf of the companies, Axel Metz from Halm, Germany and Francisco Mardones, from Nimbic presented.
Within the same workshop, a mini-symposium called Integration of Solar Energy and Energy Management in Urban Transport Systems was held, organized by the Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM) of Universidad de Chile.
This mini-symposium focused on different solar energy research areas and applications for urban transportation and its efficiency measures in order to reduce the consumption of the transportation sector.
The presenters of this mini-symposium were Jorge Amaya, Pablo Orellana, Raphael Hofstädter and Paula Uribe, of CMM; along with the Chilean Energy Efficiency Agency (ACEE, for its Spanish acronym).
During the last day of the event, several Master Classes were held in the Library hall of the National Congress in Valparaíso, were professors Stephan Koch, Paulraj Manidurai and Andrea Cortés presented their research projects on basic sciences and solar energy in front of students and general public.
Finally, the event concluded with a cocktail for the guests at La Piedra Feliz restaurant.
