Energia 2050 2

On July 31, at Cultural Center La Moneda, Minister Máximo Pacheco reported on the planning process for “Energy 2050,” a committee that seeks to define a participatory energy policy with a long-term view for the next 30 years. He also introduced the members of the advisory committee, 4 of which are also SERC Chile members.

“Energy 2050” aims to build a shared vision for the future development of the national energy sector, along with the necessary social, political and technical support to make this vision a reality. The project will run for the remainder of this year through 2015.

Minister Pacheco and Annie Dufey, head of the Division of Foresight and Energy Policy, explained the different facets of the project to an audience of 300 people from various sectors of industry, academia, and civil society.

Members of “Energy 2050” will come together at various times over the next year and a half to finalize a strategy of goals for 2035 and a plan of action until 2050. The advisory committee consists of 25 key actors from distinct areas, including energy. Rodrigo Palma, Carlos Silva, Ronald Fischer and Edward Fuentealba, distinguished SERC members, are part of the experts that make up this honorable group.

Public participation is vital for the future of this project. The government has implemented a virtual platform where those interested can not only get informed about the project’s advances, but also get involved as an additional actor.
