The IV version of the Congress of the Future “The crossroads of the 21st century” was conducted from January 14 – 17, 2016 by the Senate of the Republic of our country. Congress of the Future at the Congress of the Past Building
Chile should be proud of the successful Congress on Science, organized by the Senate of the Republic in January. I attended the event on 4 days where I enjoyed listening to and talking with world-class scientists and global leaders. Professor Chu, Nobel Physics and former Minister of Energy of China, together with Astrophysicist Mr. Rapley from UK, talked about the adaptability of the society to Climate Change. The friendly Professor Yazami, one of the inventors of Lithium Batteries, together with Professor Rodrigo Palma, Director of an important Solar Energy Center in Chile, Professor Meyn, Director of an important Institute of Sustainable Energy in the USA, and Professor Flamant, also the Director of a Center for Research and Development of Solar Energy in France, analyzed Chile’s potential to become the World Center for Solar Energy. The celebrated Bjon Lomborg (one of the top most followed people on the internet), the charming Vicky Arroyo, Director of the Georgetown Climate Center, again Professor Rapley and Connie Hedegard, US’s Commissioner for Climate Change, referred to climate change. Our dear and well-known Professor Castilla, Chile’s National Science award-winner, together with Professor Boeuf, Director of the Museum of Natural History of Paris, analyzed the clash of species and the impact of human beings against other species.
It is difficult to summarize everything in just one article and some of the ideas presented were enormously important. Chile is a world power in Renewable Energies. Chile is a country privileged by the wealth (and beauty) of its ecosystem.
The world is living a scientific singularity, using enormous human resources (mainly scientific ones) and large economic resources to solve the main problems the XXI Century society and especially to achieve the social welfare of each and every human on the Planet.
As a consequence of the above, we are also living the emergence of a new political, economic, cultural, religious and social organization. Just like nature, this system is integrative and harmonious with not only each and every one of humans, but also with other living species, and the planetary and even cosmic ecosystem. I have called it the Age of Cosmic Holistic Homeostasis. The XXI Century man, surrounded by wealth and material progress, has become aware of science and the need to live together with other species in harmony, not only from a moral point of view, but also as a way to achieve our own survival. The life of our beautiful blue sphere, our Planet Earth / Water, is not in danger. Rather, the existence and survival of the human species on the planet is in danger. This is a powerful reason to take actions.
Moreover, if the marvelous consciousness that sets us apart from other species were also an attribute of animal species, they would be preparing the Feast of Nature, upon our extinction, anticipating the wonderful flowering of the Planetary Ecosystem. Do you imagine what it would be like to see the rebirth of the animal species, the wonderful forests, seas and valleys all over the world without the arrogant presence of humans? Fortunately, thanks to our illustrious scientists and leaders, we are reacting in time. Chile must join this process. We all have to do so, even through small changes in habits.
