Green 2

Patricio Mendoza, associated SERC Chile researcher and professor of the Electrical Engineering Department of the Mathematics and Physics Faculty (FCFM, by its Spanish acronym), is the first Chilean to be acknowledged as a “Green Talent.” The competition is organized by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research which acknowledges sustainability research projects.

The competition this year selected 25 projects. Professor Mendoza participated with his doctoral thesis on micro grids and the “invention” of a micro former, an electrical transformer built with recycled components, which he developed along with Dan Ludois and Jonathan Lee during his stay at Wisconsin-Madison University, where he pursued his PhD.

The prize for the 25 “Green Talents” 2014 is a 2-week stay in Germany, which includes visits to institutions and the possibility to do a research internship of up to 3 months in that country.
